Ban Kinaree is set within a large stone walled garden, and entered through a Balinese gate, with stepping stones through a water garden. The villa consists of three separate buildings, with the central main reception room in the middle, occupying the entire top floor. All of the five double bedrooms and their en-suite bathrooms have incredible sea views. The landscaped gardens lead down to the black tiled 20x8 metre lap pool, dramatically perched on the sea view, with infinity edges on two sides, and a built in bench running the entire length. A roofed Jacuzzi extends from one corner of the pool, tiled in black mosaic, with a domed wood paneled ceiling.

A large, stone tiled terrace surrounds two sides of the pool, and extends into the dining pavilion and adjacent open BBQ kitchen. The entire poolside area is the ultimate entertainment venue, with a full sound system, and two projection screens that can be set up in a variety of locations.  

The reception room is a huge, double vaulted open plan design, including sitting areas, a projection home-cinema, dining for 12, and a large modern kitchen. Separated by a slate sided, onyx topped breakfast bar, the fully equipped gourmet kitchen features all the requisite gadgets, with solid wood cabinets, stainless steel extractor over the gas range, and wood paneled ceiling. The entire sea facing side of the reception opens onto a large veranda through concertina glass doors. Broadband internet is delivered by a satellite system, and a wide range of TV channels are provided in addition to the library of DVD titles.

On the floor below the reception, two large double bedrooms open onto a tiled patio overlooking the pool and sea view. All five bedrooms feature built in wardrobes, king size beds, additional daybeds, TV with DVD, personal safe, mini-bar, and huge en-suite bathrooms. Positioned by windows to take in the view while you soak, all of the bathrooms have custom made sunken tubs finished in polished black terrazzo, that are large enough for a couple to enjoy in full comfort. Large showers and twin wash basins are also fitted in each of the sumptuous bathrooms.

A third bedroom is located on a raised floor to the right of the reception, while the further two bedrooms are in a separate building to the left, with one bedroom on each floor. The ground floor bedroom is the closest to the pool, with a private terrace. The upper floor bedroom is the largest, including a private balcony, and enormous outdoor shower in addition to indoor shower.

Ban Kinaree is named after the mythical Thai creature that was, according to legend, half woman, half bird. The villa is truly magical, and was completed in September 2004, setting a new standard on Samui.
