Koh Koon is a spectacular and capacious hilltop estate in Chaweng Noi, sprawling over a vast 12000 square metre plot, including beautifully landscaped gardens, with panoramic sea views across Chaweng Bay and beyond. The generous space of this gorgeous property ensures absolute privacy and seclusion, while being within easy reach of the attractions and nightlife of Chaweng beach. Tastefully designed with rustic Provençale elements, including stone-clad walls, aged wooden shutters, and terracotta roof tiles, Koh Koon feels comfortable and homely, shabby-chic, and understated.
The centrepiece of the property is the 20 metre stone-tiled infinity-edge swimming pool, which is positioned on the outer edge of the garden terrace, from where the hillside falls away steeply, with mesmerising sea views. The pool includes a shallow end for kids or sun lounging, and is flanked by a wooden sun deck furnished with loungers. The deck extends to entertainment and living areas, including a pool bar and dining pavilion to the north, and a shaded sunken lounge with built-in sofa seating to the south. The poolside lounge features Bluetooth speakers, also located around the pool and throughout the property, allowing guests to play their favourite tracks via their smartphones or tablets. The pool deck is surrounded by a stone wall, and opens onto vast rolling lawns that are ideal for children to play on. The garden extends to a lower lawn with a putting green and petanque boules court.
Behind the pool, the main building is linked to four detached bedroom pavilions via stepping-stones across the lawns. The huge double-vaulted living room faces the pool and sea views, and includes a fabulous tree-trunk hewn dining table seating 18, lounge areas, a bar, pool table, foosball, and dart-board. The most striking architectural features of the property are the high arched windows, which are mirrored by arches in the open facade surrounding the adjacent travertine terrace, which is accessed through concertina glass doors, and furnished with sofas, coffee tables, and deck-chairs, extending the living area.
The living room connects to a large fitted kitchen, with marble butler sinks, Smeg appliances, juicer, espresso machines, and a breakfast bar. Off the kitchen, a second large travertine terrace offers al-fresco dining around a distressed wooden table, and an outdoor griddle for cooking a la plancha. The terrace is flanked by a sculptural arch, clad in patinated steel, and bordered by immense granite boulders. Below the terrace, under the shade of a huge tree, is a large wooden deck, which is ideally suited to yoga, dancing, or ceremonies.
Stairs lead up from the living room to a mezzanine, fitted with a library and computer, and opening onto the master bedroom. The slightly larger master includes a private balcony, and an en-suite bathroom with twin rain showers and twin marble vanities.
Below the living pavilion, a multi-purpose room can be used as a TV-lounge, a massage room, or a kids dorm, for up to 4 children in single beds. PlayStation 4 is also available for use on the large LCD TV screen, with DVD player and a digital movie library. The remaining seven bedrooms are housed in four detached pavilions. The Mountain View pavilion below the kitchen terrace houses a double and adjacent twin bedroom. Around the lawn and pool are 3 further sea view pavilions, housing a double bedroom, an interconnected double and twin bedroom, and a two storey pavilion, with a double bedroom upstairs, and a kids dorm with 4 single beds downstairs. All the bedrooms are en-suite and of similar design, with polished concrete floors, wooden shutters shielding doors and windows, bedside lamps, built-in wardrobes with safes, and desks. All double bedrooms are furnished with King-size beds.
Koh Koon is fully serviced by an experienced and friendly team of staff, including an English-speaking manageress, a chef who can prepare a wide range of European food in addition to Thai cuisine, along with a resident maid and gardener. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the property, connected via a broadband fibre-optic link. An idyllic holiday retreat, it can be difficult to find a reason to leave Koh Koon, although if you wish to visit the beaches, the villa is ideally located between the island's main beaches at Chaweng and Lamai, with the more intimate and scenic Chaweng Noi, Coral Cove, and Silver Sand beaches in between. Royal Samui Golf Course is a few hundred metres away, and there are numerous spas, restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment venues within easy reach.
